David Heckard has been working in Zoos since 1975 when he started as a Reptile Keeper at the Fort Worth Zoological Park. He is currently the Curator of Reptiles & Amphibians at the Audubon Zoo. David has a strong interest in the design of captive environments that stimulate the occupant and the viewer and promote an appreciation of the environment. He has participated in several reintroduction programs including Attwater’s prairie chickens, California condors and currently Louisiana pine snakes. He is also a permitted Master bird bander and has participated in Black-capped vireo monitoring and Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship programs.
