Camera Trap Evidence 2012

Recent images from the Reconyx cameras provided by a grant from the Disney Worldwide Conservation fund show that non-native mongoose and feral pigs frequently raid Jamaican Iguana nests. The camera traps were also able to capture photos of female iguanas using the new artificial nest areas created by the field team.  It is clear these cameras will provide valuable data to the Jamaican Iguana Recovery Program.

This mongoose was observed removing multiple eggs from this nest. Female Jamaican Iguanas only defend their nests for a week at most, after which the majority are raided.
